One of the most important aspects in mushroom cultivation is substrate disinfection. The yield can be compromised if competitive microorganisms in the cellulosic materials are not killed. Steam sanitisation is usually used to disinfect the mushroom substrate. Large quantities of energy are required to generate the steam.
