Wake up your taste buds with this sweet and spicy Cinnamon Fudge. It's not the typical flavor of fudge that you've seen coming and going, year after year...it's better!

*Disclaimer - This recipe was originally published in 2015. I'm working hard to update all my older recipes with recipe cards, new photos, and additional recipe information. But, getting to all of them will take time. Please bear with me. In the meantime let me assure you that this recipe is still a winner and one I'm sure you'll be well pleased with when you make it at home.

If you're like me and will be walking the straight and narrow when it comes to making better food choices in the new year, then there's still time for you to make this fudge before the clock strikes midnight...but you'd better hurry!

I'm sharing this recipe for fudge that I haven't made for many, many years. I first found the recipe in some woman's magazine probably close to 20 years ago, and its name is Fantasy Fudge.

A few weeks ago a friend of mine contacted me and asked me about the fudge that I used to make every Christmas while our kids were young. She had wanted to compare it to a fudge recipe she had of her sisters and asked my opinion about the ingredients. I told her that I hadn't made the Fantasy Fudge she was asking about for a long, long time. I commented to her what a coincidence it was that she had contacted me as I had been thinking of making it this year, but hadn't yet looked for my recipe. I asked her if she would mind sending me a copy of the recipe (since she had it handy), and it would save me the time and exasperation of rummaging around trying to find mine.

Not long afterward, I received a photo on my phone from my friend with the exact recipe card I'd handwritten and shared with her those oh-so-many years ago. As you can see from the photos, I was very festive with my red and green penmanship back then. LOL, I wish I would have dated the card, but I'm guessing that it's probably from the early '90s.

I treasure the fact that she shared these photos with me as it brings back so many memories. Not only of the fudge but of the days when our kids were little and the good times we've all shared. Thanks for being so sweet, Bridget!!!

As you can tell from the recipe card, I've adapted the original Fantasy Fudge recipe ever so slightly by using cinnamon chips instead of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Other than that, everything is exactly the same...including my festive penmanship which hasn't changed a whole lot over the years.

CINNAMON FUDGE {PRINT THIS RECIPE}
Makes: 9" x 13" pan Prep Time: 10 minutes Chill Time: 1 hour
3 cups granulated sugar
¾ cup butter
⅔ cup evaporated milk
1 package (12 ounces) of cinnamon chips
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow creme
baking spray
9" x 13" baking dish

-In a heavy bottom saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the sugar and evaporated milk. Bring the mixture to a boil and continue to stir constantly for 5 minutes.

-Remove from the heat and stir in the cinnamon chips, vanilla extract, and marshmallow creme until thoroughly combined.

-Spray the baking dish with the baking spray and carefully pour the cinnamon fudge mixture into the pan. Evenly smooth the top. Chill the fudge until set (at least one hour).

-Cut into squares. Serve and enjoy!

You're going to love the flavor of this fudge. While the cinnamon flavor is mild, it's enough to be noticed but doesn't hit you over the head with too much spiciness. To me, it's a perfect balance of sweetness and spice, and everything nice.

My cinnamon chips were darker, so my fudge turned out looking more like pumpkin pie filling than your photo of pale candy shows. But it's good! It doesn't need a 13x9 pan, though. A 9x9 square pan works just fine. I put pecans in mine because I just can't imagine NOT doing so. I'll make this again, but I'll use less sugar next time. Since the original recipe used semi-sweet morsels, it probably needed more sugar. The cinnamon chips are sweeter so the recipe doesn't really need that much.

I love looking back at old recipe cards...such warm and fuzzy memories. And this fudge is such a break from the norm, I really want to try it. Adding it to my list for next year (because yeah, I don't think I'm going to be making sweets for a while...). 😉

Why does homemade fudge get hard? ›

If there is too much evaporation, when the cooking time is too long, there will not be enough water left in the fudge and it will be too hard. Conversely, if the cooking time is too brief and there is not enough evaporation, too much water will remain and the fudge will be too soft.

Is parchment paper or wax paper better for fudge? ›

Parchment and wax paper are both good options when making fudge, caramel, and candy. Both parchment and wax paper will do an excellent job lining pans, wrapping individual pieces, or creating barriers between layers when storing—the differences between the two papers for use with confections are minimal.

What is the secret to smooth fudge that is not gritty? ›

Once a seed crystal forms, it grows bigger and bigger as the fudge cools. A lot of big crystals in fudge makes it grainy. By letting the fudge cool without stirring, you avoid creating seed crystals.

What does cream of tartar do in fudge? ›

Cream of tartar is used in caramel sauces and fudge to help prevent the sugar from crystallizing while cooking. It also prevents cooling sugars from forming brittle crystals, this is why it's the secret ingredient in snickerdoodles!

How do you make Paula Deen's 5 minute fudge? ›

Combine the sugar, milk, butter and salt. Boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Add the chocolate and stir until melted. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla, nuts and marshmallows until melted; mix well.

How do I get my fudge to harden? ›

Harden the fudge: Place your container or tins in the fridge for 2 hours, which is the time it takes for the fudge to set. Once it's hardened, cut the fudge into 12 pieces or remove it from the muffin tins. Store in the fridge or the freezer (if you don't devour it right away).

How is Mackinac Island fudge made? ›

The team has the process down pat: One person weighs the ingredients—raw chocolate from Germany, sugar from Bay City, and cream and butter—into a copper kettle set over a propane gas burner. The maker constantly stirs with an oak paddle until the sugary mixture reaches a roaring boil, about 16 to 17 minutes.

What gives fudge its firm texture? ›

Tiny microcrystals in fudge are what give it its firm texture. The crystals are small enough, however, that they don't feel grainy on your tongue, but smooth. While you ultimately want crystals to form, it's important that they don't form too early.
